GeoGebra in Teaching and Learning

Using the GeoGebra apps in teaching/learning
I used the GeoGebra app to teach slope, graph and dilatation in class VIIIB. Following are benefits:
This handy geometry package is free, cross platform, and very easy to use. It allows for the creation of geometric objects, which have various properties (including position, color, size, etc…)
Geogebra is useful in a wide variety of different contexts and branches of mathematics. When students are using dynamic geometry software, such as Geogebra, they invariably end up with a deeper understanding of the material (Pütz 2001).  This is probably because they are given a strong visual representation of the object, that comes associated with a more tactile impression that comes with using the mouse to move and adjust the object.  Obviously there is a "wow" factor involved in the use of the program, where the students are engaged with an activity simply because it is new, but it has been my experience that the use of these geometry packages ends up leading to a long lasting understanding of geometry.

Another advantage of Geogebra is that it allows the user to export the current file into a web .  This provides the ability for students and teachers to discuss and analyze each other’s work, and allows for the creation of a social discussion about the work.

Geogebra also allows a "construction protocol navigation bar" to be added to the file, which means that users can step the geometric construction process, one piece at a time.  This is a tremendous advantage of Geogebra as it allows a user observing someone else’s work to have some insight into the process they went through to create it.

Geogebra allows students to actively and through the sharing of the work online, socially construct an understanding of geometry.  This program allows for simple visualizations of possibly complex geometric concepts, and helps enhance a student’s understanding of those concepts.

Using google Classroom for Teaching learning

Using Google classroom for the Teaching Learning

I am trying to create a google classroom for teaching and learning Mathematics in class VIII B. In the google class, I will be guiding my students through classes (presentation), class test, and assessment for the class.
The pros of the conducting lesson in google class are:
It is easy to use and can be accessed from all kind of devices. Such as all computers, mobile phones, and tablets, it makes it really easy for you to add as many learners as you like, create Google documents to manage assignments and announcements, post YouTube videos, add links, or attach files from Google Drive. Learners will find it equally easy to log in, as well as receive and turn in assignments.
Effective feedback system is one thing I like about this google classroom. The instant feedback provided becomes more effective, as fresh comments and remarks have bigger impact on learner’s mind.
The google classroom has the ability to go paperless and stop worrying about printing, handing out, or even losing your learners’ work!
The drawback of the google classroom is when we create an assignment and we distribute it to learners, learners become “owners” of the document and they are allowed to edit it. That means that they can delete any part of the assignment they want, which could cause problems, even if it happens accidentally.

Using Google forms to conduct unit test in classes

Using Google forms for Unit test in my classrooms.

I have tried out using google forms in the conduct of unit test for classes VII A and VIII B mathematics. Here are some pros and cons in carrying out the test.
The advantages of having it done in google forms are:
The good thing about using google form is the data analysis. Data are all analyzed automatically, we can make out which questions needs remedy and my extra attention. The score is also auto generated once it is set in questions. The test conducted in google forms saves time, if we have 30 students, to correct   the paper of 30 students comes up to about 4-5 hours, however, correction are all done auto.

The down side of the test being conducted in google form is, the lack of internet connectivity. We have enough number of computers in the lab, however the PC connected to the internet facility is very limited. So children waited in turns to attempt for the test.
The time management, time in correcting may be saved however, whole lot of time is taken for preparing the test.
We also need to guide children how to go to site, google forms, how to use the link. Literally there were guided one by one. Which ate the major chunk of my time.

Teacher guiding how to use the link.

Wechat and Camtessia

Using Wechat forum to enhance teaching learning of mathematics

I have used the video tutorial created as the ICT assignment in teaching the class, this assignment has served two purposes, one it has made the teaching of comparing and ordering decimal lesson easier.   And the second, I am well equipped to make such tutorial in Camtesia. The substitute teachers will also love to go to the class with the tutorial. Thanks to our tutor, sir Ugyen Wangchuk for the gift. The Gift of Camtessia and the assignment.

I have posted the video tutorial on the wechat forum of class IV. We conversed with the parents of the class IV family, the participation was what made me going, I will create lots of tutorial for the future use.

ICT in teaching mathematics in VII

Integrating ICT into classroom has immense benefits to the learners as well as the teachers. Following are some of the main benefits of using technology in the classroom.
Improves engagement
When technology is integrated into lessons, students will be more interested in the subjects they are studying. Technology provides different opportunities to make learning more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching same things in new ways. For instance, delivering teaching through gamification, taking students on virtual field trips and using other online learning resources. What is more, technology can encourage a more active participation in the learning process which can be hard to achieve through a traditional lecture environment.

Improves knowledge retention
Students who are engaged and interested in things they are studying, are expected to have a better knowledge retention. As mentioned before, technology can help to encourage active participation in the classroom which also is a very important factor for increased knowledge retention. Different forms of technology can be used to experiment with and decide what works best for students in terms of retaining their knowledge.
Encourages individual learning
No one learns in the same way because of different learning styles and different abilities. Technology provides great opportunities for making learning more effective for everyone with different needs. For example, students can learn at their own speed, review difficult concepts or skip ahead if they need to. What is more, technology can provide more opportunities for struggling or disabled students. Access to the Internet gives students access to a broad range of resources to conduct research in different ways, which in turn can increase the engagement.
Encourages collaboration
Students can practice collaboration skills by getting involved in different online activities. For instance, working on different projects by collaborating with others on forums or by sharing documents on their virtual learning environments. Technology can encourage collaboration with students in the same classroom, same school and even with other classrooms around the world.

Students can learn useful life skills through technology
By using technology in the classroom, both teachers and students can develop skills essential for the 21st century. Students can gain the skills they will need to be successful in the future. Modern learning is about collaborating with others, solving complex problems, critical thinking, developing different forms of communication and leadership skills, and improving motivation and productivity. What is more, technology can help develop many practical skills, including creating presentations, learning to differentiate reliable from unreliable sources on the Internet, maintaining proper online etiquette, and writing emails. These are very important skills that can be developed in the classroom.
Benefits for teachers
With countless online resources, technology can help improve teaching. Teachers can use different apps or trusted online resources to enhance the traditional ways of teaching and to keep students more engaged. Virtual lesson plans, grading software and online assessments can help teachers save a lot time. This valuable time can be used for working with students who are struggling. What is more, having virtual learning environments in schools enhances collaboration and knowledge sharing between teachers.
